Life without glasses is great
Michal Janek, MD graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. From 1975 to 1984, he worked at the Eye Department of the Příbram Hospital. From 1985 to 1997, he was the head of the Eye Department of the Klatovy Hospital, and from 1998 to 2011, he served as the head physician of the OFTA Eye Microsurgery Center in Plzeň.
Since 2011, he has been performing cataract surgeries at the Eye Centre Prague. He is a prominent figure in the field of Czech cataract surgery, ranking among the leading surgeons in the Czech Republic with nearly 30,000 cataract operations performed.
He was one of the first to start removing cataracts using ultrasonic phacoemulsification and was a proponent of the outpatient method for this surgery. From 1994 to 1997, he served as the scientific secretary of the Czech Ophthalmological Society. In 1998, he co-founded the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery, of which he is still a member. He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He regularly participates in professional congresses in the Czech Republic and abroad and is actively involved in lecturing.
In 2008, he became only the second person in the Czech Republic to receive the highest award from the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery—the Professor Vanýsek Medal for his contributions to the development of implantology in ophthalmology in the Czech Republic. In 2013, he was granted honorary membership in the Czech Ophthalmological Society. Since 2009, he has been teaching optometry at the Higher Medical School in Plzeň."
