Andrea JANEKOVÁ, MD, FEBO, FEBOS-CR

Andrea Janeková, MD, FEBO, FEBOS-CR, graduated from the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. In 2012, she completed a several-month internship at the Eye Department of the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova in Llerida, Spain. She has attended specialized courses in Chicago (AAO Chicago 2016), Vienna, Lisbon, and Barcelona. In May 2019, she successfully passed the international European examination in ophthalmology in Paris and received the title FEBO (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology). In 2024, after successfully passing the European specialization exam, she received the prestigious title FEBOS-CR (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology - Specialist Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery).

Since November 2012, she has been working as a specialist ophthalmologist at the Eye Centre Prague. Since 2023, she has served as the Head Physician of the cataract, refractive, and vitreoretinal surgery center and also holds the position of Deputy Head Physician. In May 2023, she was elected to the board of the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (ČSRKCH).

In 2024, she successfully passed the demanding examination organized by the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) in collaboration with the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) in Barcelona, becoming the first female ophthalmologist from the Czech Republic to do so. This accreditation certifies surgeons with significant clinical competence, surgical skills, and theoretical knowledge, and she received the title FEBOS-CR – the European title in cataract and refractive surgery. In the Czech Republic, she is one of only two holders of this prestigious title.

You can currently meet Dr. Andrea Janeková primarily in the operating room, where she performs over 2,500 intraocular surgeries annually. She specializes in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and retinal and vitreous surgery. Recently, she has also been focusing on glaucoma surgeries. She is co-responsible for the education of specialist physicians at our facility. Her research activities involve intraocular implants, and she has extensive experience as a Principal Investigator in clinical studies.

She participates annually in professional ophthalmology congresses, regularly presenting the results of her work both in the Czech Republic and at renowned international congresses, such as ESCRS (European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery) and SOE (European Society of Ophthalmology). In recent years, she has lectured in Barcelona (SOE 2017, ESCRS 2024), Lisbon (ESCRS 2017), Vienna (ESCRS 2018, 2023), Nice (SOE 2019), Paris (ESCRS 2019), and Milan (ESCRS 2022).

She is a member of the Czech Ophthalmological Society (ČOS), the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (ČSRKCH), and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS). For several years, she has served as an instructor for teaching eye microsurgery in the Austrian MTS - wetlab company. Since 2024, she has also been an instructor for teaching eye microsurgery at the annual ESCRS congresses.

In her free time, Dr. Andrea Janeková enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She enjoys snowboarding, running, and climbing via ferrata. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
