Yes, this is possible at Eye Centre Prague. Skilled surgeon and Emeritus Chief Physician Dr. Michal Janek performed cataract surgery on Ms. Boháčová. While cataract surgery is common, what makes this case special is that the patient was his mother-in-law—and, due to our family ties at Eye Centre Prague, Ms. Boháčová is also the grandmother of our Director, Mgr. Adam Janek.

“Ms. Boháčová is an incredibly lively person. Upon entering the office, she was constantly smiling and sharing stories of her life and experiences,” shared her attending physician, Dr. Andrea Janeková.

At 84 years old, Ms. Boháčová decided to have her cataracts removed. Her son-in-law was the surgeon, and he shared that Ms. Boháčová is not the typical mother-in-law from jokes. “I have a great affection for Boženka; she cooperated beautifully in the operating room, and everything went smoothly,” said Dr. Michal Janek immediately after the surgery. He implanted the Softec HDY premium lens for her, which significantly improves vision in low-light conditions.

After the surgery, Ms. Boháčová admitted she had a bit of anxiety, but it faded within the first few minutes. She said she felt very comfortable at Eye Centre Prague: “The environment at the clinic is incredible. I grew up in an era with dingy clinics and cold staff behavior. The approach of the nurses, doctors, and receptionists was absolutely incredible for me! I want to thank everyone for bringing me back to the beautiful, vibrant colors of the world.”
