Dr. Andrea Janeková was the first ophthalmologist from the Czech Republic to receive the prestigious title FEBOS-CR.

We are proud to announce that our leading physician in cataract, refractive, and vitreoretinal surgery, Dr. Andrea Janeková, has successfully passed the challenging exam organized by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) in collaboration with the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). She has thus earned the prestigious European qualification FEBOS-CR, which accredits top surgeons with excellent clinical, theoretical, and surgical skills.

This title is awarded only to the best professionals in the field who demonstrate not only their deep theoretical knowledge but also exceptional surgical abilities in practice. Strict eligibility criteria for taking the exam were met by only 25 candidates who were allowed to take the exam held this year in Barcelona. Only 15 candidates from various European countries were successful. With this historic achievement, Dr. Andrea Janeková became the first woman from the Czech Republic and only the seventh woman in all of Europe to receive this prestigious title. Overall, there are only two holders of this title in the Czech Republic, highlighting the uniqueness of this success.

The FEBOS-CR exam includes very difficult written and oral tests that assess professional knowledge and surgical skills at the highest level. The written test, which contains 250 questions and lasts 2.5 hours, is followed by an oral part where candidates undergo four challenging assessments. These include analyzing professional literature, solving complex cases in cataract and refractive surgery, and examining surgical procedures through videos.

Dr. Janeková not only successfully met all the exam requirements but also demonstrated that Czech ophthalmology can successfully compete at the European level. This exceptional success is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and surgical artistry, which she has long demonstrated—at a young age, she ranks among the most active surgeons in the Czech Republic, having successfully performed over 10,000 surgeries.

And how does Dr. Janeková perceive this success herself?

'Receiving the FEBOS-CR title is a great honor for me, as it has a very high prestige at the international level. It was one of the most challenging exams I have ever taken, both theoretically and practically. I am immensely proud to have succeeded, as this is truly not a given, and even very renowned European ophthalmologists do not pass this exam. I see this success as a huge motivation for further professional development and as a commitment to provide our patients with ever better care.'

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) organizes the FEBOS-CR exam (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology – Specialist Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery) annually in collaboration with the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) to identify and accredit surgeons with outstanding clinical competence, theoretical knowledge, and surgical skills. The exam is recognized as one of the most challenging and prestigious in the field of eye surgery in Europe.
