Life without glasses is great
This year, our Dr. Andrea Janeková served as a specialist lecturer at the prestigious 12th Balkan Ophthalmic Wetlab Course, which took place from May 15 to 18, 2024, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Balkan Ophthalmic Wetlab (BOW) educational program is a unique comprehensive workshop that covers both theory and practice across the entire field of ophthalmology (cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, laser refractive surgery, glaucoma surgery, keratoplasties, and oculoplastics).
The course combines various teaching techniques—theory, videos, and so-called wet labs—under the guidance of prominent international faculty members and renowned experts in the field. One of these experts is our Dr. Andrea Janeková.
A total of 100 doctors from 11 European countries participated in this educational program, covering all segments of ophthalmology.
Dr. Janeková was one of three expert lecturers in the course focused on cataract surgery. A total of 40 participants attended this course, where Dr. Janeková taught them how to perform cataract surgery, both in theoretical form and, more importantly, in practical application. During the course, she demonstrated the entire cataract surgery and explained exactly what she was doing. Subsequently, each participant practiced the surgery themselves while the lecturers provided oversight and guidance. Throughout the entire event, an incredible 3,500 practice eyes were operated on in the wet lab, making the whole event truly demanding.
The education of young ophthalmologists and novice eye surgeons has long been a goal for Dr. Janeková—both within OCP, where she oversees our educational academy, and as part of her membership on the board of the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (ČSRKCH), where she also focuses on education.
