Our Dr. Andrea Janeková was a guest on the podcast Power Without Illness on Czech Radio Dvojka. In the interview with Šárka Volemanová, she discussed glaucoma and new unique glaucoma surgeries. Along with Dr. Janeková, her patient Mr. Bohuslav, who underwent this surgery with her, was also a guest.

Innovative surgical treatment of glaucoma

In the interview, Dr. Janeková describes what glaucoma is, what its causes are, how the disease manifests, and the difference between glaucoma and cataracts. She explains that the most common risk factor is elevated intraocular pressure, which is treated with regular eye drops. The conversation also covers the options for conservative treatment of glaucoma, surgical treatment, and the latest unique surgeries for glaucoma using micro-implants. She describes the advantages of this surgery and how the procedure itself works.

She explains that, compared to previous surgical treatments, the new minimally invasive surgeries are now also suitable for patients with early-stage glaucoma who have difficulty tolerating eye drops. After surgery, patients can either discontinue or significantly reduce their local treatment with eye drops.

Mr. Bohuslav then shares his experience with this surgery. He had been treated for elevated intraocular pressure for several years, using various eye drops and tablets. However, the options for local treatment were eventually exhausted, and he was recommended the innovative minimally invasive surgery involving two micro-stents. A positive result of the surgery was observed for Mr. Bohuslav as early as the second day during the follow-up visit, when good intraocular pressure values were measured.

The interview also features Mr. Bohuslav's daughter, who accompanied her father throughout the examinations and surgery.
