A new life without glasses
Our Dr. Andrea Janeková served as an expert instructor at the 11th Balkan Eye Wetlab Course, which took place from May 31 to June 3, 2023, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Balkan Ophthalmic Wetlab (BOW) educational program is a unique comprehensive workshop covering both theory and practice across the entire field of ophthalmology, including cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, laser refractive surgery, glaucoma surgery, keratoplasty, and oculoplastics.
The course combines various teaching techniques—theory, videos, and so-called wet labs—under the guidance of prominent international faculty members and renowned experts in the field.
A total of 100 participants from all segments of ophthalmology attended this educational program.
Dr. Janeková was one of four expert instructors in the course focused on cataract surgery. A total of 50 participants from 12 different countries, predominantly from the Balkans, attended this course.
Throughout the week, Dr. Janeková taught and shared her experiences, not only in theoretical terms but especially in practical aspects. She demonstrated the entire cataract surgery during the course, explaining exactly what she was doing. Each participant then practiced the surgery themselves, with instructors monitoring and providing guidance as needed. During the entire event, an incredible 2,500 practice eyes were operated on in the wet lab, making the event quite demanding.
Dr. Janeková participated in a similar course seven years ago as a participant. Now, she performs over 2,000 cataract surgeries annually and served as an experienced instructor at the course.
We are proud that Dr. Janeková has become part of the faculty that has been dedicated to the education of eye surgeons for 30 years, and we are also pleased that she has excellently represented Czech ophthalmology.
