Life without glasses is great
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Days of vision prevention, during which Eye Centre Prague will bring its 'mobile clinic' with a team of doctors and nurses directly to the workplaces of various rescue services. In previous years, 700 police officers, guards, and rescue workers had their vision examined over the course of three days. We expect similar interest this year.
Good vision is essential for the work of members of the integrated rescue system, and annual eye examinations conducted right at their workplaces are a significant benefit for them.
On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the Municipal Police of Prague will undergo preventive examinations together with the Health Emergency Service of Prague at Korunní 98, Prague Vinohrady.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, the examinations will continue at the Police Headquarters of the Czech Republic on Strojnická Street in Prague 7.
On Thursday, November 24, 2022, employees at the Regional Police Headquarters of Prague will have their vision examined at Kongresová 2 in Prague 4.
The Days of Vision Prevention have been held annually since 2011, with the exception of 2020 when the event could not take place due to the coronavirus epidemic. This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary.
During past years, Eye Centre Prague has examined nearly 6,000 healthcare workers, guards, and police officers in Prague. The results so far confirm that the event is meaningful, as the preventive examinations identify not only common refractive eye defects such as myopia and hyperopia but also potential hidden eye issues, such as elevated intraocular pressure.
Cases of cataracts and various retinal diseases have also been detected. Among individuals who have undergone eye examinations repeatedly, a positive trend has been observed, with a reduction in the number of patients with poor glasses correction and dry eye syndrome.
"We recommend undergoing a preventive eye examination once a year, and we are pleased that members of the integrated rescue system take our recommendation seriously. It is thanks to this that the entire event has transformed into a significant long-term project," says Radan Zugar, MD, Chief Doctor of the Clinic at Eye Centre Prague.
The eye examinations conducted during the Days of Vision Prevention are not time-consuming for rescue service personnel, taking about 20 minutes. They include instrumental vision measurement as well as examination and consultation with an eye doctor, who will recommend any necessary treatment. An advantage is that if further examinations are needed, all personnel can turn to Eye Centre Prague, which conducted the initial examination and can follow up to ensure quality eye care, including specialized retinal examination using OCT angiography.
There has long been significant interest from members of various rescue services in having eye examinations conducted directly at their workplaces.
"We welcome this opportunity for prevention and examination. Good vision is essential for our lives and work. The mobile clinic, where eye specialists come to us, is a significant advantage. This is also a reason for the increasing interest among our employees, which pleases us," said Irena Seifertová, spokesperson for the Municipal Police of Prague.
"We also welcome the traditional Days of vision prevention this year. Doctors conduct examinations and provide professional consultations in the working environment of our police officers and civilian employees, which is a great benefit. Performing police duties is very demanding, so we consider eye care to be crucial, and we are very pleased that our colleagues make good use of it," says plk. Mgr. Zuzana Pidrmanová, Head of the Prevention Department at the Police Headquarters of the Czech Republic.
