SURGERY PROCESS

PRE-OP EXAMINATION

Each patient must undergo a thorough examination by special computer diagnostic tools and clinical medical examination before the surgery. According to the final examination results the treatment plan will be settled and the treatment options specified.

The preliminary examination consists of different types of screening with the following devices: automatic keratometer, refractometer, abberometer and Pentacam device. Also you need to undergo examination of the visual acuity (distance and near vision), intraocular pressure, eye fundus examination in cycloplegia and interview with the surgeon.

The preliminary examination might take approximately 2 hours. You will not be able to drive a car for about 6-8 hours; the cycloplegia effect might persist for up to 24 hours.

Contact lenses change the corneal curvature to a certain point. It is necessary not to wear soft contact lenses for about 1 week before the examination (with hard contact lenses it is 2 weeks) and 5 days before the surgery.

EYE LASER SURGERY PROCEDURE

The LASIK method treatment is ambulatory. You must arrive for the operation in full health – acute flu-like illness, fresh herpes simplex or others are serious contraindications. The operation itself is almost painless. The laser activity takes 20-60 seconds depending on the dioptric power defect. You will spend approximately 15-20 min in the operating room. Shortly after the surgery you can go home. First day after the operation you need to arrive at the Eye Centre Prague for a check-up.

Preparation before the surgery, surgery itself, check-up, instructions and arrangement of the dates for the next examinations will take approximately 2 hours in total.

It is convenient when you arrive for the surgery with accompaniment and you bring along sunglasses. The eye is not covered/patched after the operation. Temporary undesirable signs after the LASIK treatment are minimal and usually these include just slight feeling of dry eyes, tearing, burning, decreased visual acuity in the dark and seeing circles around bright lights in the dark. The regeneration of the vision after the LASIK  method is very quick. During the 1st and 2nd day most of the patients can see clearly with minimum disturbing signs. The complete stabilization of the vision comes after 3 months.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE

Usually, patient comes for regular checks the other day after surgery, after week and then the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th month after the surgery. It is needed to complete all the postoperative examinations in the Eye Centre Prague to apply the lifetime warranty on the dioptres for distance range.
